A Ruba’i of Omar Xayyâm
Although it is not clear to us whether this Ruba’i belongs to Omar Khayyam (Omar Xayyâm) or Abu Saeed Abu al-Khair, we thought that this belonged to Khayyam because of its similarity to his works.

هِنگامِ سِپیده دَم خُروسِ سَحَری
hengâm-e sepide(h)-dam xorus-e sahari
هِنگامِ = when, in the
سِپیده دَم = dawn
خُروس = rooster
سَحَری = dawn-time
دانی که چِرا هَمی کُنَد نوحه گَری
dâni ke(h) čerâ hami konad nohe(h)-gari
دانی = short form of “mi-dâni”/ do you know
که = that
چرا = why
هَمی کُنَد = mikond = is doing
نوحه گَری = mourning
یعنی که نِمودَند در آیینه ی صُبح
ya’ni ke(h) nemudand dar âyine(h)-ye sobh
یَعنی = it means
که = that
نِمودَند = revealed
دَر= in
آیینه = mirror
صُبح = morning
کَز عُمرِ شَبی گُذَشت و تو بی خَبَری
kaz ‘omr šabi gozašt-o to bixabari
کَز = (short form of ke(h) az) = from
عُمر = life
گُذَشت = passed
و = and
تو = you
بی خَبر= unaware
ی = i (short form of hasti) = are

Roba’i no 114
Easy Translation:
Do you know why the dawn-time rooster mourns at dawn?
Morning, like a mirror, revealed that one night of your life passed and you are unaware of this passing of time
