NEGAR ILGHAMI
FarsiMonde’s Founder

Farsi Tutor / Linguist

My name is Negar Ilghami. I am a linguist and I have been a language instructor for nearly twenty years. I began my career teaching English, but my passion for language grew as time went on. For over a decade, I have focused on teaching Persian to non-Iranians, turning this work into a true calling. Meanwhile, I worked on different aspects of Persian, collaborating with various organizations and universities to collect, analyze, and interpret Persian data, including Cologne University’s register variation research and the UN co-funded sustainable tourism project.

My journey in teaching Persian began with a collaboration at the Dehkhoda Lexicon Institute. After years of teaching both group and private classes, my colleagues and I started to dream about creating something bigger—a website that could bring the beauty of the Persian language to learners worldwide. And so, with this shared vision and a lot of hard work, FarsiMonde was born.

At FarsiMonde, we aim to make learning Persian easier for language enthusiasts worldwide. We focus on designing educational books for learners at various levels, creating instructional videos, and introducing non-Iranians to Iranian culture, poets, and prominent figures. Additionally, we aim to support Iranian families living abroad in teaching their children their mother tongue.

My passion for learning languages, traveling, reading, poetry, and painting is why we delve into various topics in my Persian classes, especially at the intermediate and advanced levels.

DR. NEGAR DAVARI ARDAKANI

Linguist / Professor / Tutor

I am a language and linguistics teacher and a researcher- an associate professor in the linguistics department of Shahid Beheshti University (SBU) – who believes in the power of research in enhancing the teaching performance.

My doctoral research was a survey of overt and covert Persian language policy in Iran and an assessment of the status of Persian as a symbol of Iranian identity through which I received my PhD in linguistics from the University of Tehran in 2007. I have also supervised attitude assessment projects in Isfahan, Kurdistan, Zahedan, Sistan and Baluchestan and Azerbaijan. I am the author of “Persian as a National Language, Minority Languages and Multilingual Education in Iran” in the Routledge Handbook of Second Language Acquisition and Pedagogy of Persian (2020) and a co-author of “Persian evaluative morphology” in the Edinburgh Handbook of Evaluative Morphology (2015). My review of Hamid Dabashi‘s Persophilia (2014) has been published in AJISS.

I have enriched my academic administrative experience by being the assistant dean of research in the faculty of Literature and Humanities, at Shahid Beheshti University from 2011 to 2014, during which I managed to hold national and international conferences to open the space for fruitful academic dialogues.

During the past decades, I have been teaching sociolinguistics, discourse analysis, research methods in linguistics and basic, intermediate and advanced Persian. I have internationalized my academic experience by teaching and researching at Australian National University and London SOAS. In my view, teaching is a way of purifying and promoting self by practicing generosity in nurturing others and ultimately a micro level attempt to shape the world. Relying on this philosophy, my students and I manage to create a dynamic meeting place where we communicate, enjoy and live through a discursive awareness not only about Persian language, linguistics and culture but beyond it, about humanity and life; somewhere we look forward to coming back.

sina 400x400 - Farsi Tutors

Cinna Homai
FarsiMonde’s Co-founder

Farsi Tutor

My name is Cinna Homai. I have a diverse educational background, studying graphic design, law, and cinema. During my film school, a Persian language institute invited me to teach a workshop on Iranian cinema for non-Iranians. What began as a short course quickly grew as we connected well, leading to another class where we explored Persian short stories together.

Before I knew it, I was fascinated. The institute offered me a full-time position teaching Persian. To my amazement, I discovered that I enjoyed teaching Persian even more than teaching filmmaking.

As I delved further into teaching, I noticed significant gaps in the educational materials accessible to Persian students. I was eager to make improvements, but the available options were scarce. Additionally, I became aware that other Persian-speaking nations like Afghanistan and Tajikistan lacked high-quality resources for teaching Persian. It seemed Iran was among the limited sources people could rely on for assistance.

During the COVID lockdown, my colleagues and I established FarsiMonde to help Persian learners master the language more effectively and efficiently. We currently provide private and group classes, available online or in person in Tehran, teaching Persian language, literature, and calligraphy. Additionally, we’ve created an engaging course on the Persian alphabet, accessible on YouTube.

Gaz, saffron, and Sohan are well-known Iranian souvenirs, but FarsiMonde offers something even more valuable: the Persian language and literature. We hope you enjoy learning it as much as we enjoy teaching it.

Mahdiyeh Arvin 400x400 - Farsi Tutors

MAHDIYEH ARVIN

Farsi Tutor / Translator / Linguist

I, Mahdieh Arvin, completed a bachelor’s degree in English translation, a field that has always been my passion. I believe that translation can connect individuals’ unique thought processes, ultimately bringing people closer together. The art of translation can transport one from one’s world into the world of the source language.

During my studies in translation, I developed a deep interest in linguistics. As a result, I pursued a master’s degree in General Linguistics from Shahid Beheshti University in Tehran. This experience broadened my perspective and allowed me to explore the diverse world of languages, where people think, love, face challenges, and thrive in unique ways.

I found that language is a living entity at risk of fading away for various reasons. It’s intriguing! Therefore, to truly grasp and preserve different languages, we must strive to keep them thriving. One way to achieve this is by promoting language learning. The idea of someone wanting to learn a language excites me, especially about Persian.

I’m fully committed to helping people become proficient in Persian, covering speaking, comprehension, and critical thinking. This method significantly enriches the learning process. I can also assist in content English-Persian translation and editing Persian articles and theses written by non-Persian speakers. I’m thrilled to be part of the FarsiMond team, where I’ll take you through the Persian language, culture, and daily life in a systematic manner.
